intro photos construction awards flying packages

The Sikorsky S-38 is a twin engine flying boat capable of flying off land or water. Plans are available in three sizes; 1/6, 1/8, and 1/12 scale.

The 1/6 scale prototype was powered by a pair of Saito 1.50 4 cycle engines with a flying weight of 42 pounds. This included full details, rivets, rib stitching, cockpit, and full cabin detail.
A 1/6 sport scale version would have a target weight of 30-35 pounds - flyable with OS 1.20 4 cycle engines.

The 1/12 scale prototype was powered by a pair of AstroFlight 806G Brushless motors; each powered by a 10 cell 1700 mah NiCad pack.
Flying weight was 9 pounds - including 3 pounds of batteries.

Our new 1/12 scale prototype featured at the 2003 Toledo Expo is targeted for a 6 pound flying weight enabling use of less expensive motors and lighter batteries.
The prototype features a 2 piece vacuum formed hull. Finished weight of the hull is 18 ounces including laser cut formers and photo etched metal.
Short kits are planned for October 2003 availability.
